Fulton County Commission Declares March 8th Atlanta Women’s Foundation Appreciation Day

Fulton County Commissioner Dana Barrett Awards the AWF Appreciation Day Proclamation to AWF CEO Kari B. Love.

In recognition of the Atlanta Women’s Foundation’s (AWF) dedication to empowering women and girls, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners has officially proclaimed Saturday, March 8, 2025, as Atlanta Women’s Foundation Appreciation Day in Fulton County. This declaration comes in celebration of International Women’s Day and highlights AWF’s ongoing commitment to breaking barriers and fostering economic stability for women and girls in metro Atlanta. During a proclamation ceremony, County Commissioner Dana Barrett underscored the importance of supporting nonprofit organizations such as AWF, especially as funding uncertainties put crucial programs at risk.

“I chose to honor the Atlanta Women’s Foundation on International Women’s Day because I’m deeply worried about the recent shifts in federal policy which have put nonprofits that serve women and girls in jeopardy. AWF’s work to support these organizations in Fulton County and across metro Atlanta is now more critical than ever. In this challenging moment, I was especially proud to stand with the entire Board of Commissioners in support of AWF and in support of rights, equality, and empowerment for all women and girls,” said Fulton County Commissioner Dana Barrett.

AWF has been a catalyst for change since 1998, investing nearly $30 million into programs that provide essential services for women and girls across metro Atlanta. Over the last decade, AWF has funded initiatives impacting more than 64,000 women and girls, offering access to workforce training, childcare, employment support, and other vital resources.

AWF CEO Kari Love expressed gratitude for the recognition and reinforced the organization’s mission:

AWF remains committed to breaking barriers and creating opportunities for women and girls in metro Atlanta. This special recognition highlights the power of investing in women and strengthening our communities. Thank you, Commissioner Barrett and the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, for this honor and for supporting the Atlanta Women’s Foundation.”

This proclamation powerfully reminds us of the urgent need to invest in programs that uplift women and girls and ensure they have the tools to achieve economic security and success.
