Women on Board

Polly Simpson Leadership Fund

The Polly Simpson Leadership Fund was created in memory of long-time leader, volunteer and supporter of The Atlanta Women’s Foundation, Polly Simpson. Polly was an outstanding volunteer and a huge supporter of initiatives that created a pathway to success for women and girls throughout metro Atlanta. Polly’s contribution to AWF during her tenure as Board Chair allowed AWF to flourish and to become the organization it is today. The Polly Simpson Leadership Fund will provide free, customized "Women on Board" training to our nonprofit grantee partners. Beginning in spring 2023, AWF's current grantee partners will have the opportunity to sign up for their training. More information coming soon!

Women on Board Facilitator

Terri Theisen

Training provided by Terri Theisen of Theisen Consulting

Theisen Consulting leads strategic, tactical, and business planning; organizational design, restructuring and assessment; advisement on board structure, composition, and effectiveness; executive and leadership transitions; and mergers and strategic alliances.

Theisen Consulting is a national management consulting firm providing strategic counsel and consulting to nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, grantmaking foundations, coalitions and collaboratives, corporate civic engagement and social responsibility programs, and government agencies throughout the United States. Theisen Consulting has deep experience with strategic and tactical planning, group facilitation and decision-making, board development and effectiveness, change management processes, organizational assessments, benchmarking studies, and environmental scans/market research. Theisen Consulting brings an evidence-based mindset and a culture of utilizing data, facts, curiosity and openness in our work with people and their organizations.

Theisen Consulting has always worked nationally requiring Terri to conduct online meetings and workshops virtually.  She facilitates online sessions almost every day, in varying lengths.  She keeps the focus on engagement with the people in the workshop - the key is engagement with the topic, the material, the other participants and the facilitator.  Terri constantly changes how the information is delivered, so that people are not just staring at a screen for hours.

The firm has worked in all fields, but has particular expertise in public health, education, human services, the environment, nonprofit management and governance, and arts/culture.

Prior to founding Theisen Consulting in 2001, Terri served as an executive leader in nonprofit organizations in more than 20 years. She served as CEO of a regional nonprofit; as vice president of two large national nonprofits where she had responsibility for the field operation of more than 30 affiliates; and as an internal management consultant in a large national nonprofit organization. Throughout her career, she held various professional staff positions in program management, public policy, and operations management.

Terri currently serves on the board of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and on the Women United Leadership Council of United Way Worldwide. Terri is an active alumnae of Leadership Atlanta and is a graduate of the Diversity Leadership Academy.

Terri received the United Way of Greater Atlanta’s Leading a Life of Purpose Award in 2018 and is a frequent speaker at conferences and professional convenings, including the Council on Foundations, the BoardSource Leadership Forum, Grantmakers in the Arts, the Georgia Society of CPAs, and the Council of Volunteer Administrators. She has been interviewed by numerous nonprofit industry publications and is the author of two books: Nonprofit Business Plan Development: From Vision, Mission, and Values to Implementation, and Succession Planning for Nonprofit Leadership: Steps to Ensuring Your Organization’s Future.
