The Atlanta Women’s Foundation exists to help women and girls thrive. As a catalyst for change in the lives of women and girls, AWF plays an essential role in helping more women and girls of metro Atlanta live safe, economically self-sufficient, and vibrant lives. When you invest through AWF, your impact on women and girls goes further — creating more resilient, stable families and communities for everyone.

Our “Why”

women supporting each other

POVERTY

17%

OF WOMEN LIVE BELOW THE POVERTY LINE

As of 2019, 17% of women live below the poverty line in metro Atlanta. Additionally, girls are more likely to live in poverty than boys.

EMPLOYMENT

66.67%

OF WOMEN FILL THE
40 LOWEST PAID JOBS

Women make up nearly two-thirds of the 40 lowest-paid jobs.

MENTAL HEALTH

2x

AS LIKELY TO SUFFER FROM MENTAL ILLNESS

Low-income women are twice as likely to suffer from mental illness as women above the poverty line.

Philanthropic giving to women’s and girls’ organizations represents less than 2% of total charitable donations in the United States. This suggests the needs of women and girls are undervalued and the unique challenges they face are being left largely unaddressed.

That’s why the Atlanta Women’s Foundation exists. Our unwavering mission is to be a catalyst of change for women and girls — actively and purposefully driving positive transformations in their lives. To do this, we raise funds that amplify the work of strategic nonprofits serving Atlanta.

How We Work

In all that we do, we ask ourselves, “How will this positively impact women and girls in a way that can be proven?” This point of view anchors all our grant initiatives, grant recipient selection, events, research engagements, and professional development opportunities. We then identify the organizations and programs with the greatest impact and help fund them accordingly.

WE FUND

We amplify the work of Atlanta grassroots nonprofits by raising funds for grants.

WE EDUCATE

Knowledge is power, and we extend that power to our communities by offering leadership and philanthropic training. In addition, we’re committed to conducting important research and publishing publicly available reports about the challenges girls and women face.

WE CONNECT

We bring people together and develop community advocates through our regular events and campaigns.

Your generosity helps lift women and girls out of poverty.
