Holiday Volunteering with AWF Grantees

You can show your holiday spirit this season by helping out one of our grantee organizations. We’ve created a list of volunteer opportunities this holiday season with AWF grantees. This list will be updated on an ongoing basis as we receive information about opportunities to give back.

Our House

Our House is one of our Women’s Pathway to Success grantees and their mission is to end the cycle of homelessness for families.  Our House has several volunteer opportunities to help out this holiday season.

If you are interested in any of the opportunities, contact Eva Cooke, New Volunteer & In-kind Manager at ecooke@ourhousega.org.

Virtual Story Time: Our House seeks opportunities to partner with community leaders to read stories to children enrolled in our Atlanta and Decatur early learning programs. Volunteers can pre-record themselves reading an age-appropriate book or schedule a read along with students via Zoom.

Meal Hosts: To ensure the safety of our volunteers and families, Our House is partnering with meal hosts to provide catered meals to families residing in our Atlanta shelter. Meal schedules and drop offs are coordinated through our Volunteer and In-Kind Manager and slots are available Monday through Sunday for brunch or dinner.

Donation Closet Assistant: Our Atlanta site is home to a children’s clothing closet and family supply closet that helps reduce expenses for families on the path to self-sufficiency. Volunteers are needed to keep donations arranged neatly in closets, pack and unpack seasonal clothing, and sift through donations to ensure they are appropriate for client distribution.

Holiday Angels: Individual or group volunteers can adopt a family for our annual “Holiday Angels” program. Volunteers are matched with a family in need to provide items off a wish list of winter holiday gifts. Recipients include families housed in our emergency shelter and families enrolled in our aftercare services.

Donation Drive Hosts: Individual and group volunteers are needed to host donation drives for personal and household supplies for families enrolled in our programs. This includes items such as diapers, wipes, soap, laundry detergent, formula, paper towels, Clorox wipes, shampoo and conditioner.

Veterans Empowerment Organization

Veterans Empowerment Organization (VEO) is our Women Veterans Grant Initiative grantee and VEO’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for all veterans on their road to self-sufficiency.

VEO is seeking volunteers for their Holiday Adopt a Hero Campaign. You can “adopt” a veteran by purchasing 2-3 items per veteran for no more than $100. Once you’ve signed up, you will receive your “adopted” veteran’s wish list to help you shop.

To participate, please contact Alicia Taylor at alicia.taylor@veohero.org.
