Why do you support The Atlanta Women’s Foundation?

As a public health professional, I am familiar with many of the health-related issues affecting low-income and vulnerable communities. But, as one of AWF’s volunteer grantmakers, I get to actually visit organizations and see and feel the passion people have for their work and their dedication to serving women and girls. It is inspiring, and I feel empowered to be part of a group of men and women that support this collection of local nonprofits – the AWF grantee partners.

Why are you so committed to philanthropy and supporting women and girls?

In my life, whether through scholarships or other supportive networks, I have always benefitted from others who cared about me. Now, I give because I grew up seeing others give.

What else is unique about your experience supporting AWF?

Volunteering with AWF gets you out of your typical routine. You learn about issues and nonprofits you otherwise wouldn’t. AWF plays an important role in connecting Atlanta’s nonprofit community with many of the city’s business professionals. During my grantmaking experience, I learned about an organization and was able to connect them with faculty members at Morehouse School of Medicine who work in program evaluation – something that was a benefit to both sides.
